Bio

I lived in NM for nearly 20 years after growing up and going to school in Iowa.  We moved to Maryland in 1989 and I retired from work as a hospital pharmacist in 2010.  Most of my early fly-fishing efforts were in fresh water - San Juan River, Yellowstone Park area rivers, and many small mountain streams, then the streams of Western Maryland and PA, as well as trips to New Zealand, Australia, Alaska, Canada and the beginnings of my saltwater fishing in Cozumel, MX.  In 2012 we moved to Delaware and I began to focus on saltwater fly-fishing.  I belong to the Saltwater Fly Anglers of Delaware - we just dismantled our library since there is so much stuff on You-tube and other videos.  Recently I have had the opportunity to fish Belize - Ambergris Caye, Andros Island - Bahamas,  South Padre Island - Texas,  and I fish Delaware Bay and Chesapeake Bay waters frequently.  On many Saturday mornings in the winter (when we are not traveling), I will be at the Lewes Harbor Marina tying flies with my SFAoD friends.  Come join us if you are a local - $25/year.
My wife and I recently moved from our community about 10 miles south of Dover into the capital of Delaware.  Dover is probably the smallest state capital city in the country.  We now live in a retirement community in an independent living cottage.  I recently learned that one of my neighbors is a very experienced saltwater fly fisherman.  He is a Korea and VN veteran and doesn't get around so well any longer, but we have had some great sharing of fishing stories. I'm not sure where all he has fished but I know he fished in Belize numerous times and has been to Patagonia several times  He was decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross twice during his USAF career.  He retired the year I began my career in the USPHS (1971) and we both served 22 years.
My wife and I recently became co-chairs of our community's Biography Committee.   Each new resident in independent living completes a short biographic sketch of themselves.  Once that is done, a committee member interviews the resident, writes up a one-page Bio and takes a picture of the new person.  The pages are distributed to everyone in independent living so we can get to know the new people more quickly.   In a way it is a bit like the TU forum.  A very nice way to get to know folks and learn from others' experiences.
