I live in the beautiful county of Los Alamos, NM, surrounded by the Jemez and Sangre de Cristo mountains and with a wealth of streams, rivers and stillwaters to enjoy. My home overlooks White Rock Canyon, with the Rio Grande flowing about 1,000 feet below us.
I retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory after nearly 30 years as a science writer and media relations specialist, a marvelous career for someone with neverending curiosity.
As a lifelong horsewoman I have several horses here at our house, and I’m a former Eventing rider, coach, competition organizer and a continuing fox hunter. I’m a Master of Foxhounds for Caza Ladrón Hunt out of Santa Fe, so every Saturday from October through March I’m galloping across the Caja Del Rio in pursuit of hounds, who are in pursuit of coyote.
My experience in fly fishing is modest, at best, but in recent years I have enjoyed the waters of northern New Mexico and southern Colorado. Long ago, during a couple of years in Fairbanks, we fished central Alaska extensively, then took a break during work and child raising. Great to be back on the water! I variously wade, kayak, fish from a Jon boat and occasionally float tube, depending on my whims. I’ve become active with the New Mexico Lady Anglers, and we’re working to expand the awareness of fly fishing opportunities amongst the women we know.
