Stripe Account

Stripe Account Overview: Stripe is the service Eventgroove utilizes for online credit card processing. It is simple to set up and connect to your chapters' bank account. Setting up Stripe is best performed by the chapter Treasurer who will have all the chapter bank account details and be listed on the account. Start by registering a new Stripe account (see guide below). Then you can add the Stripe account to the TU Events Center and then to the TU Fundraising Center for the chapter.

When preparing to create the Stripe account for the first time, you will need:

The Treasurers' personal email address and mobile number for the account and the verification process

The Chapter's EIN (not TU National's EIN) and the associated mailing address - PO Boxes are not accepted

The chapter’s bank account information that includes your login credentials for your online banking account. Be sure to log in before starting.

Being logged in to your Stripe account will also help to connect Eventgroove and Stripe

Guidelines to Creating a Stripe Account:

Register a new account: Go to Stripe.com and click the "Start now" button. Alternatively, go directly to the Stripe.com registration page. • Enter Account Details: Fill out the signup form with the Treasurer's personal secure email address, full name, and create a strong password. • Verify Email: Check your inbox for a verification email from Stripe and click the "Verify email address" button.

Activate Account: In the dashboard, click "Activate payments" to enter your chapter’s business details. This includes: • For 'Business type' select Nonprofit Organization • For 'Tax details' enter the Chapter’s EIN and the legal business name exactly as it appears on the chapter's IRS-issued documents. o Example: XYZ Chapter of Trout Unlimited #123 o Do not use the TU National EIN • For 'Business details': o Use the chapter's EIN office address as the business address o Enter the chapter's URL as a 'Business website'. A suitable alternative is the chapter's state listing on www.tu.org/chapters. For 'Business representative': Enter the account representative's personal details, including the last 4 digits of your SSN. This is strictly for compliance with Know Your Customer regulations. This will only be used internally. All payments processed through the Stripe account will be associated with the chapter, as a legal entity.

For 'Products or Services': o Choose 'Charities or social service organizations' as the category o Suggested 'Description': "Collecting payments for donations and fundraiser events organized by the local Trout Unlimited chapter"

For 'Public details', the 'Statement descriptor' field is what appears on donors' bank statements when they donate. Ex: XYZ Chapter of TU

Secure Account: Set up two-factor authentication (2FA) via SMS, an authenticator app, or a security key to protect your account.

For 'Add extras': For 'Tax calculation', choose 'Skip for now'.  For 'Climate contributions', select 'No thanks'.

If everything looks correct, select 'Agree and submit'.

Add your Stripe Account to the TU Events Center - tu.myeventscenter.comYou will first log in with your chapter’s primary TU email address which was used to create the Eventgroove profile. Example: xyzchapter@tu.org.
